Peonies

They speak for themselves....

Doodle Fairy Zazzle Store

I just opened a store on Zazzle and have been stocking it with some of my designs. It's kind of addicting- :) You can find my Zazzle store by clicking this link or at the gallery at the bottom of the page. http://www.zazzle.com/dreamer_mug-168441197136335293 Here are some examples of what I have so far.

Starting Impatiens

Every year I plant a specific type of Impatiens in my flower beds. They are large flowered and large plants all around. I began to have trouble finding them at the greenhouses so I began to propagate my own. Each fall, before the first frost I take several cuttings from my existing plants and stick them in water and put them on the windowsill. After Christmas, I plant the, by now, rooted cuttings and put them in a sunny window. By early April the plant is large and full of flowers so it is time to root the plants that will be in my flower beds and containers. Filling some six packs with soil, I like African violet mix, I insert the cuttings, one to a cell and keep very wet until it's time to plant them outside. Very easy, money saving and an almost unlimited suppyl.

Simple Tools

It got down to the point where I only had a few little, stubby pencils, most without erasers, or erasers that were so old they had chemically transformed, leaving pink smudges on everything. I never really thought about it-pencils-they're so basic, but they are the beginning to everything I create, the simplest, yet most important tools of my trade. This should be enough for a while.

Family

I love going through my old family photos...I have hundreds. Some of them date back to....well they are tin types of ancestors I have never met, but most of them are people I knew very well. Below is a pic of my great grandfather. He started a business in Milwaukee that is still going to this day. He made quite a good living at it.

Here is my grandmother in her teens in the late 18o0's, her I knew very well and miss her a lot. I have the necklace that she is wearing in the photo, it is gold filigree with turquoise stones...I have worn it on occasion but am afraid to lose it.

The Chapel

The snow is finally melting, but I've lived in Wisconsin long enough to know that winter isn't over yet....but it's nice to have a taste of Spring.

Winter really leaves behind a mess to clean up. Branches, tufts of old grass, and leaves all over, especially when you live in the woods. The clean-up is a good excuse to get outdoors on a nice day. This is a picture of our outdoor wood furnace building we call "The Chapel". My husband and I built it on a warm fall weekend using materials that he precut at work. My grandson Andy Bean calls it Papa's House. He loves to go inside and sweep. We are thinking of building him a playhouse just like it-he'd love that!

Welcome to My New Blog

When it comes down to it, I have a split decorating/collecting personality....with one common thread-antiquity. Ever since I was a child, and my father revealed some old calling and postcards stuck in the lath while removing a wall from our old farmhouse, I was enchanted with old paper, ephemeral art. Since then I have amassed quite a collection of cards, books, and such, a couple which are shown in the photo. I really love the workmanship and ornateness of the Victorian era and European antiquities.

Then there is the historic American everyday style of living, from Colonial through the early 1900's, that has become "art", known now as "primitive"-an evolution of the country movement which began in the 1970's. Early American and pioneer antiques. No matter, I collect them all!

Unlike my business blog, Harvest Moon Hill Graphics, here I hope to be showing some of my collections, sharing some of recipes and crafting, and basically writing whatever strikes me at the time. More of a personal journey.
